Yes, preparing for a wedding can be tremendously overwhelming but I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss the fun pieces of planning. Seeing your creative energy come to life and involving those with extreme talent to memorialize the big day is the stuff of magic.
While Patrick and I have lived in Chicago for quite some time, we are both from Wisconsin. Meaning that the fair majority of our guests would be traveling to celebrate with us. For that reason, it was important that we kept our guests at top-of-mind. How do we deliver that “Chicago cool” that will leave a lasting impression? Yes, mini Chicago dogs were a good touch, but number one, praise hands, best decision, was giving Matt Roan the reigns at our reception.
While washing down a couple cocktails with Matt pre-wedding we not only discussed major songs (intro, cake cutting, first dance, etc.), but we talked about a “must” playlist, genres we like, and the overall vibe we wanted the party to have. The vibe we decided on was basically, “dance floor full.” Mission accomplished.
Walking in to our fully decorated venue with candles lit will forever be special, but hearing some of the music that means the most to us in the background was seriously the cherry-on-top. Catching eye with my 85 year-old grandma, old college friends, and the girl I met when I first stepped foot in the city while getting down on the dance floor was insane. Matt gave us everything we wanted, but also giving him freedom to execute what he does best made the night special for everyone. He elevated and amplified our reception into a celebration beyond our expectations while avoiding all those cookie-cutter dance floor stereotypes. Unexpectedly, post wedding, guests of all ages showered us with thank you cards and compliments noting how much fun they had and how great Matt was.
His talent for bringing people together is only surpassed by his positivity, effortlessly cool style, contagious laugh, and energy behind the decks. He makes the process simple- which you’ll be so thankful for. So many praises for Matt! Thank you!

Eric and I cannot thank you enough for the beyond amazing job you did at our wedding. Our DJ & music selections were very important to us and we are confident that there was no better man for the job. You allowed us to personalize our music exactly to what we wanted and played everything we requested & so much more. The dance floor was packed the entire time and many guests shared that they danced more at our wedding than any other. After hearing Matt DJ for the first time we knew there was no one else we wanted to hire for our wedding reception - he's incredible! He has a completely fresh, unique sound because he actually creates his own mixes and the energy he brings to your party is unparalleled. It was extremely important to us to have both a full dance floor all night as well as an entertainment aspect that differed from all of the other weddings we've attended, and we were far from disappointed. Our friends and family raved about Matt long after the wedding and Kate received nothing but the best feedback when she hired him for some of her client's corporate events right after meeting him. In addition to all of this Matt is just a really cool, down to earth dude who we truly enjoyed working with. We strongly recommend him to all!

Matt Roan DJ'ed my wedding and it was nothing short of a perfect experience. My family is incredibly opinionated about music, between the groom, myself, and our families, there were a lot of requests for music ranging the spectrum from classic oldies to current hip hop. From this seemingly nonsensical list, Matt was able to create an amazing playlist that kept everyone, including the young kids, the grandparents, and even myself, the bride, on the dance floor all night! Even a couple months later, people are still talking about what a blast we had dancing all night! Even beyond that, he shines as a true professional. His positive attitude and ability to adapt to the inevitable last minute changes, made working with him a breeze! I never needed to worry about a thing, as he worked directly with our wedding coordinator to ensure everything ran smoothly. His professionalism and true grasp of music across all genres made him an immense pleasure to work with!

Every time our wedding comes up in conversation, people still go on an on about the super cool DJ and jam packed dance floor. Matt is a class act! In a few words, Matt Roan MADE our whole wedding reception. When we first booked Matt a little over a year before, he immediately reached out to to meet Kent and I over a few drinks and get a feel for our big day. At our first meeting, he was friendly, welcoming, asked all of he right questions, and most importantly, knew how important music was to our big day. On the actual wedding day, Matt played throughout our reception, kicking things off over dinner with the perfect mood-setting music and was amazing at introducing different family members as the speeches went on. Once dinner ended and the dancing began, I’m 100% certain most people NEVER left the floor. He was just that good! He perfectly captured the mood of the party all night long, even playing a few parent-friendly hits (including country western requests from my Dad). Music was very important to Kent and I, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with our choice in Matt - not only is he an amazingly creative DJ, his positive, energetic personality makes the party that much better. I wish we could do it all over again!
